Hemispheric Asymmetry in Neuroscience

Resumo

Based on the particular adult population described, the following observations were made: 1) eyedness is related to visual acuity and this relationship is not an all-or-none phenomena; 2) just as right handed subjects are more likely to be “pure” right handed than left handed subjects are to be “pure” left handed, right eyed subjects are more likely to be “pure” right eyed than left eyed subjects are to be “pure” left eyed; 3) eyedness is related to handedness at least in right handed subjects; and 4) handedness and eyedness may be related to an anatomical asymmetric structure, the direction of the trichogyria. Some of the implications of these findings to the problem of what factors lead to one particular hand or eye being dominant are discussed.
