ResumoA procedure is described for calculating scattering cross-section data based on the numerical solution of differential equations in the frequency domain. The scatterers considered are two-dimensional and consist of lossy, inhomogeneous dielectric, magnetic, and perfectly conducting material. The appropriate wave equation is combined with an approximate local absorbing boundary condition and discretized with the finite-element method. Results for conducting and dielectric scatterers are presented to illustrate the accuracy and generality of the approach. >
