Religion and Society in Latin America

The aim of the article was to reconstruct the history of the Archdiocese of Goiânia and the Military Government from 1968 to 1985. The sources were Revista da Arquidiocese, writen by Dom Fernando, Church documents and the newspaper Folha de Goiaz. The Archidiocese of Goiânia had chosen an "eclesial" project based on fight for justice, and the defense of the Human Rights and its participation in the popular movements. This project had generated, on the one hand, the conflict betwen the Church and the Military Government, but on the other hand, it had opened a space for the politicizing in the midst of the institution.
