ResumoThe polarization of neutrons from the reaction 2H(d, n)3He has been measured with unpolarized incident particles and target nuclei. A new type of helium recoil polarimeter is used. The results indicate a monotonic increase of the degree of neutron polarization Pn with increasing deuteron energy Ed in the range 50–700 keV. Typical values are Pn = −0.099, −0.126, −0.162 and −0.173 for Ed = 52, 154, 268 and 586 keV respectively and a neutron emission angle of 52–53° in the c.m. system. The measured dependence of Pn on Ed approximately agrees with the energy dependence calculated from measured anisotropies of the neutron angular distribution by means of the theoretical relations of Blin-Stoyle and Boersma.
