Resumo

Mossbauer spectra, obtained with sources of 57Co in palladium and absorbers of sodium ferrocyanide, have been fitted to a Voigt profile by a procedure which enables the optimum values of the separate Lorentzian and Gaussian width components to be determined. Data from one source with absorbers of several different thicknesses suggest that most of the Gaussian broadening comes from the source, the Lorentz component of which has the ideal natural width. The Gaussian widths of several sources have been measured, and seem to vary systematically with the number of decays that have occurred in the source.
