ResumoGold nanowires have been fabricated by heat treatment of HAuCl4-soaked mesoporous silica at 300 °C in air atmosphere. Transmission-electron-microscope images show that, with increase of annealing temperature, Au nanowires gradually grow into nanoparticles. Due to the morphology transformation, the surface plasmon resonance peak of the composite can be continuously tuned from about 1080 to about 530 nm. Adopting the extended Gans’ formula in dipole approximation, simulation also proves that tunable optical properties over a large spectral region can be realized by such morphology transformation.
