Resumo

The histology of the tongue in the region of the foramen cecum has been reviewed in 100 cadaver specimens. The foramen cecum was found in many cases to represent the opening of an underlying tonsillar crypt. The occurrence of fungal elements in the epithelium and of large oxyphil granular cells in the ducts and acini of the underlying glands is reported.
