Resumo

Summary 1.The head of a human fœtus with mandibular retrognathia and cleft palate was examined histologically and by graphic reconstruction. 2.The extent to which the tongue was malpositioned through the cleft palate was revealed. 3.An analysis of the palate suggested tissue deficiency of developmental and environmental origin. 4.Displacement of palatal tissue by the tongue was manifest. 5.Evidence is presented to suggest that cleft palate commonly associated with the Pierre Robin syndrome is a developmental defect secondary to mandibular retrognathia.
