ResumoCordierite-hypersthene rocks with a chemistry comparable to the cordierite-anthophyllite rocks of Orijärvi have been found in the high-grade West Uusimaa Complex, SW Finland. Chemistry, petrography, and spatial relations indicate that the cordierite-hypersthene rocks represent the high-grade equivalents of the Orijärvi cordierite-anthophyllite rocks. Metamorphic conditions for the Orijärvi and West Uusimaa Complex occurrences are estimated at respectively 550–650°C, 3–5 kbar, low H2O activity and 710–810°C, 3–5 kbar, low H2O-high CO2 activity. Cordierte-anthophyllite rocks are generally associated with massive CuPbZn deposits. It is suggested that the cordierite-hypersthene rocks might be potential guides to CuPbZn deposits in high-grade regions.
