ResumoCyclic voltammetry studies of cryptands containing the ferrocene unit are reported, together with the shifts (ΔE12) in redox potential caused by complex formation with a variety of monovalent, divalent and trivalent cations. Correlation between δE12 values and the ratios charge (c)/cationic radius (r) for amide cryptands or c/r2 for amine cryptands are rationalised in terms of the type of complex formed.
