Resumo

The spectral irradiance of a 1000-watt xenon lamp was determined prior to modifying its radiant output to simulate the solar spectrum. A survey of filter glasses was made and the transmission characteristics of two types found useful for this problem are described. The spectral irradiance of the xenon lamp after passing the radiation through UV-6 and KG-2 filter glasses was measured and compared with noonday solar radiation at Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1960 and 1961 (42° N latitude). The spectral distribution of the lamp filter combination agrees closely with the solar spectrum although the rate of change in the ultraviolet region is greater than that for solar radiation.
