Resumo

A new stomatopod associate, Athanas squillophilus n. sp., is described and illustrated. It is a specialized form of the genus Athanas characterized by well-exposed eyes with less pigmented corneas, a well-developed pterygostomial spine, a rudimental exopod on the first pereopods, a smooth posterior margin of dactyli and propodi of the last three pereopods, and dense setae on the flexor margin of the chela of the first pereopods. The genus Pseudathanas shares the last character with the new species, but two spines on the anterior margin of the carapace and the smooth diaeresis exclude the new species from that genus. The new species is one of the northernmost alpheids, being known from southern Hokkaido. This is the second report of the association between an alpheid shrimp and a stomatopod.
