As part of our current program of the study of benthic organisms along a transect from Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, to Bermuda, a series of samples were taken on the continental slope. We obtained one such sample, Slope Station 3, on August 28, 1962, at 39° 58.4' N and 70° 40.3' W, from a depth of 300 m. Its volume was 61 liters, representing 0.56 m2 of bottom. The sediment
