ResumoPhotochemical Water‐Gas Shift Reaction Catalyzed by Zinc Sulfide Irradiation of an aqueous suspension (pH 14) of n‐zinc sulfide in the presence of carbon monoxide leads to a catalytic formation of hydrogen and carbonate. From the 1:1 ratio of these products the process is formulated as a water‐gas shift reaction. The quantum yield of the hydrogen evolution is 0.008 at λ = 320 nm. Only minor amounts of hydrogen are formed at pH ⩽ 10.
