Cecil, G. ; Stockton, A. Abstract Deep charge-coupled device images confirm that a real feature is present at the position of the luminous connection originally reported by Arp (1971). Considerable structure exists in the envelope surrounding Mrk 205, including apparent tidal tails from both the QSO and its compact companion 3.3 arcsec to the NNE. The luminous connection has a complex morphology, reflecting its composite character: the part near Mrk 205 seems to be largely a portion of the tail from the companion, while the remaining part is a continuation of a tangential feature on the east side of Mrk 205. It is not certain from the data whether this feature is the extension of the tidal tail from Mrk 205 or simply a distorted spiral arm. In either case, however, the connection appears to consist of material associated solely with Mrk 205 and its companion.
