ResumoThe tellurium-rich compound [Re6Te14I14] (1) was obtained in high yield by high-temperature reaction (400°C) of the octahedral cluster complex Re6Te15 with I2 in a 1:9 ratio. Compound 1 is diamagnetic air-stable and insoluble in most common organic solvents. The structure of 1 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The [Re6Te8(TeI2)6]2+ structure is characterized by the presence of the octahedral Re6 cluster with Re-Re distances at 2.690(1)–2.700(1)Å; the Re-μ3-Te distances are 2.689(1)–2.698(1)Å. Each Re atom is ligated by neutral TeI2 group. The Re-TeI2 distances are 2.670(1)–2.672(1)Å. The Te-I distances in the TeI2 ligands range from 2.756(2) to 2.785(2)A˚. The I-Te-I bond angles are 89.29(5)–92.67(5)° and the Re-Te-I angles span 104.19(4) to 106.56(3)°.
