ResumoWe the authors of the following commentary, as women with HIV from around the world, have personal experience with the issues contained in this special edition of Reproductive Health Matters. We welcome the special edition, especially the language of its title, which explicitly establishes a norm of openness, possibility and positivity. We contend that the work of policy makers, practitioners, donors and academics needs to incorporate a human rights-based, holistic view of what pregnancy, motherhood and HIV mean for women and children alike, and our hope is that the articles in this publication will inform this work accordingly.
