ResumoCARBONATITIC COMPLEX CATALÃO I, GOIAS STATE.Pteridium catalensis sp.nov., a Neogene/ Quaternary pteridophyte from Catalão, Goiás State, Mid-western Brazil, is presented herein. This new species is described on the basis of sterile and fertile portions, being similar to Family Dennstaedtiaceae, mostly close to Pteridium, a genus in which the studied specimens can be directly related. The samples have been recovered from lacustrine deposits from "Cemitério Paleolake", being part of a recent floral assemblage named as "Catalão Taphoflora".The presence of fusenite in the studied specimens indicates that their remains were embedded in sediments after had been burned.Due to this fact, paleoecological considerations on role of the wild fires in the paleobiology of P. catalensis sp.nov.are briefly discussed herein.
