Resumo

Studies of photoinduced phenomena in chalcogenide glasses appear to be entering a new phase, which can be specified by two recent advances. First, the heat-mode phase-change phenomenon has been applied to erasable optical memories. Second, a variety of photon-mode phenomena are understood to be manifestations of electron—lattice interaction in disordered systems. However, many fundamental problems remain unresolved.
