ResumoSUMMARY. — The Genevan scholar Jean Senebier (1742-1809), who is famous for his contribution to the understanding of the mechanism of photosynthesis, wrote an important book for the history of experimental method, the Essai sur l'art d'observer et de faire des expériences (1802). He is also the author of a manuscript of natural theology entitled the « Essai de téléologie » (1773-1803). The study of these two texts enhances our perception of the typical Genevan scientist and suggests the existence of a neo-classical movement in science at the end of the eighteenth century.
