Resumo

Alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonists (alpha-blockers) such as doxazosin or terazosin have long been used for the treatment of arterial hypertension. They have also been used in the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Newer alpha-blockers such as alfuzosin or tamsulosin relieve BPH symptoms equally effectively as doxazosin or terazosin but have an improved safety profile relative to the classic alpha-blockers. 1 Djavan B Marberger M A meta-analysis on the efficacy and tolerability of α1-adrenoceptor antagonists in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of benign prostatic obstruction. We summarize the worldwide clinical experience with both drugs.
