ResumoGrowth in GOlliopsis cruelllala (Latreille) (Crus tacea, Brachyura, Grapsidae) in laboratory.The growth of the crab GO/liospis cruel/ta ta (Latreill e, 1803), was studied in the laboratory, through of the molt incre ment and intermolr period.A total of 86 crabs (48 ma les and 38 femal es) were collected in the Itacuruçá 's Mangrove in Mangaratiba 's cOllnly, Ri o de Jane iro .The crabs were maintened in the laboratory in fOllr 1000 I tanks, with continuous water circulation during fifteen months.They were fed each two days with pieces of fish and fruit s.The crabs varied in size from 19.3 to 56.0 mm in males and 23.3 to 48.8 mm in fema les.The males presented until four molts during the experiment and lhe fema les ul1lil ix mo lts.The molts occ urred during ali the months .The mean percentage of molt increment was 6. 1 ± 2.7%, for both sexes and it decreased wi th lhe animal growlh .The relation between the moll incre menl and the carapace width can be expressed by lhe equation IM = -0.32LC+ 18.26 (r = -0.82).Thi s relation didn ' t show any signifi cati ve difference between the sexes.The mean intermolt peri od was of 87 .6 ± 37 .3days in malc crabs and 97.3 ± 27.6 days in females .The growth was co ntiguous, through successi ve molts, although the increment was reduced with animal size.The inlennoll period was proportional 10 the animal size increa e, howeve r males wit h alltotomy of limbs had the intermolt period reduced.
