ResumoSir – Despite the advent of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT) still has a central role in testicular cancer surveillance programmes. Nathan and Rustin [ 1 Nathan ID Rustin GR The role of CT scanning in the surveillance of testicular tumours (editorial). J Clin Oncol. 2003; 15: 121-122 Scopus (10) Google Scholar ]highlight the worrying lifetime risk of induction of a second cancer/leukaemia from surveillance CT in this particular group of patients. They correctly emphasise the need to reduce CT frequency and the amount of the body to be scanned to the minimum necessary. In addition, we suggest that CT protocols for these patients need to incorporate low-dose techniques wherever possible.
