Resumo

This paper discusses the results of an investigation of XENIX System V, concentrating on its suitability for real-time applications. The results show that XENIX is not really suitable for hard real-time applications, but that the development environment is mature and powerful. These facts suggest that other versions of UNIX which have rewritten to provide real-time response may be suitable for such applications, and would provide a sound platform for the development of large real-time systems.
