It was notable that in 5 patients with retinitis, relapse occurred as early as 4 weeks after the end of DHPG infusion and that daily maintenance treatment was required to sustain remission. Foscarnet (4) is a virostatic agent of importance in the treatment of cytomegalovirus infections after renal and bone marrow transplantation (5). We have recently used foscarnet to treat a patient with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and cytomegalovirus retinitis.A white heterosexual man aged 54 years...References1.
