ResumoRelational-Cultural Theory (Miller, 1976 Miller, J. B. 1976. Toward a new psychology of women, Boston: Beacon Press. [Google Scholar], 1986 Miller, J. B. 1986. What do we mean by relationships? Work in Progress, No. 22, Wellesley, MA: Stone Center Working Paper Series. [Google Scholar]) is based on the tenet that people grow through and toward relationships with others, rather than through separation and individuation. In this article, the characters and song lyrics of the Broadway musical, Wicked (Schwartz, Holzman, Mantello, & Platt, 2003 Schwartz, S. Composer, Holzman, W. Writer, Mantello, J. Director and Platt, M. Producer. 2003. Wicked: The Musical, New York: Broadway Theater. [Broadway play] [Google Scholar]), are viewed through the lens of Relational-Cultural Theory. The characters and songs are used to illustrate growth-fostering relationships, mutuality, authenticity, and the therapeutic relationship within the context of a Relational-Cultural counseling approach.
