El doctor Jaume Peyrí (Reus, 1877; Barcelona, 1950) fue el primer catedrático de Dermatología y Sifiliografía de la Universidad de Barcelona y el segundo de España. Desempeñó este cargo, junto con la jefatura del Servicio de Dermatología del Hospital Clínico, entre los años 1915 y 1947, con un breve paréntesis durante la guerra civil. Tanto su obra médica —12 libros y unos 200 artículos— como su gran actividad —instruyó a más de 5.000 alumnos y atendió a unos 70.000 pacientes— reflejan su vocación docente, su inteligencia y su capacidad de trabajo. Su proyección internacional, favorecida por el dominio de diversos idiomas, fue notable, lo cual le llevó a ocupar puestos destacados en las sociedades dermatológicas internacionales. Humanista y hombre de amplia cultura, realizó numerosas aportaciones a la historia de la medicina y de la dermatología, así como a la filosofía, la literatura, el teatro, el arte y la política. Catalanista y republicano moderado, defendió el catalán como lengua científica y se mantuvo siempre alejado de la militancia en partidos políticos. Perteneció a numerosas sociedades culturales y científicas, en las que ocupó puestos de responsabilidad, llegando a presidir la Real Academia de Medicina de Barcelona, el Instituto Médico-Farmacéutico de Catalunya, la Societat Catalana de Dermatologia (de la que fue fundador) y la Sección Catalana de la Academia Española de Dermatología. Jaume Peyrí (Reus, 1877; Barcelona, 1950), was the first professor of Dermatology and Syphilography of the University of Barcelona and the second in Spain. Simultaneously he was the Chief of the Dermatologic Service in the Clinic Hospital, between 1915 and 1947, with a brief parenthesis during the Civil War. His multiple medical contributions —12 books and 200 articles— and his great activity —he trained more than 5.000 pupils and attended more than 70.000 patients— reflect his educational vocation, his inteligence and working capacity. His international projection was posible because of his eminent speaking of several languages, that let him have notorious positions in international dermatologic societies. Humanist and with a wide culture, he made interesting aportations not only to the history of medicine and Dermatology, but to philosophy, literature, theater, art and politics. Catalan nationalist and republican, he always protected the catalan language as a scientific one, but never mixed up in politics. He belonged to numerous scientific and cultural associations, having responsible positions. He was the president of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Barcelona, the Medical-Pharmaceutical Institute of Catalunya, the Catalan Society of Dermatology and the Catalan Section of the Spanish Academy of Dermatologists.
