ResumoThis paper describes a "maturing" class of attitude sensors used to determine spacecraft attitude with respect to the celestial sphere. During the past fifteen years, the design direction of attitude sensors has turned towards star field trackers and away from single-star trackers. The focus of this paper is on the description of the principles of operation and processes by which these star field trackers recognize and track a desired star field.
