Anisotropy of the spatial distribution of the intermanifold luminescence intensity due to 4F3/2 → 4I9/2−15/2 channels is observed and its theoretical interpretation is given. The intermanifold and the "Stark" luminescence branching ratios, the peaks, and the effective cross-sections of the transitions are determined for the three crystallographic directions a, b, and c of the crystal at 77 and 300 K. The probabilities of spontaneous transitions and a number of some other spectroscopic parameters are also measured. On the base of obtained data the question of using the Judd-Ofelt treatment for the analysis of spectral properties of anisotropic crystals doped with TR3+ ions is discussed.
