ResumoConcrete armor units are commonly employed for the protection of shorelines and rubble structures. Their design is primarily based on hydrodynamic stability, but their structural response to wave loading is poorly understood. In this study a wave force model is presented, which includes drag, inertia, kinetic and buoyant force components, to estimate hydrodynamic loads on the concrete armor unit, dolos. These loads are employed in a three-dimensional FEM analysis to determine the dynamic states of stress in a 42-ton dolos.
