The Fiftieth Annual Meeting of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association was held at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs, Florida, November 13–15, 2003. The President was Joseph I. Miller, Jr, MD (Atlanta, GA). Officers elected for the coming year are: President, D. Glenn Pennington, MD (Johnson City, TN); President-Elect, Irving L. Kron, MD (Charlottesville, VA); and Vice President, Peter K. Smith, MD (Durham, NC). Elected to the Council were Duke E. Cameron, MD (Baltimore, MD), and W. Steves Ring, MD (Dallas, TX). Coselli, MD, for the paper he presented, “Left Heart Bypass During Descending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms Repair Does Not Prevent Paraplegia.” In addition, the 2002 Hawley H. Seiler, MD, Resident Award was presented to Thomas S. Maxey, MD, for his paper and presentation entitled, “A Tailored Supraclavicular Approach to Thoracic Outlet Decompression is Safe and Efficacious in Managing All Forms of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.” The Fifty-first Annual Meeting will be held at the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Hotel in Cancun, Mexico, November 4–6, 2004. Co-Chairs of the 2004 Program Committee are Scott A. Bradley, MD, and James A. Quintessenza, MD. Chair of the 2004 Postgraduate Committee is Erle H. Austin III, MD. Chair of the 2004 Membership Committee is John P. Marbarger, Jr, MD.
