ResumoAn important aspect of solvent extraction processes rests in the ability to effect a satisfactory separation of the phases on completion of extraction. In previous work the solvent extraction of bitumen from Alberta oil-sands has been described in detail. This work extends the study to describe the effect of changes in the extraction process on a subsequent separation step. A comparison is drawn between a conventional screening operation and a separation based on the spherical agglomeration process. The results show that in order to achieve an optimum overall process the conditions in the extraction mill must be carefully selected.
