ResumoStream ciphers constitute an important class of symmetric encryption algorithms; they are generally utilizing an additive combiner such as exclusive-OR (XOR). Unfortunately, if an adversary gains some given or guessed plaintext matching ciphertext, XOR immediately reveals the confusion sequence. This allows an adversary to recover some of the keystream masking material. To enhance the complexity of the weak XOR combiner, this paper attempted to develop a new combiner algorithm suitable for stream ciphers, termed Auto-Key Round Combiner Algorithm A-KRCA, applied as a nonlinear invertible round function to perform the encryption/decryption process. A-KRCA was implemented and its cryptanalysis demonstrated that the proposed combiner acted more efficiently, high degree of security and a higher level of complexity against possible attacks.
