ResumoSevere infection induces both activation of the coagulation system and multiple other inflammatory mediator cascades. This concise review summarizes the current knowledge of mechanisms that are considered to contribute to the procoagulant response to sepsis. Furthermore, evidence is discussed that mediators traditionally involved in the regulation of the hemostatic balance may also influence other inflammatory pathways.
