ResumoThe dendrites which cross midline from one spinal ventral horn to the other in the dendritic commissure of Cajal are organized into bundles similar to those we have previously described elsewhere in spinal cord, brainstem reticular formation, and thalamus. These commissural bundles are made up of dendrites from motoneurons of functionally diverse pools from both sides of the cord, in addition to the shafts of many interneurons. These bundle complexes appear to be present at birth in both cervical and lumbosacral regions. They are conceived as the repository for central programs concerned with reflexive response sequences involving pairs of extremities, such as stepping and walking.
