This article presents the first results obtained in the Fellowship program. Other material and observations will be described in later papers. The monkey studies were aided by a Grant from the Committee on Sex Research of the Rockefeller Foundation. The work on Cebus was done while a guest of the Rockefeller Foundation at the Epidemiological Laboratory of the Yellow Fever Service in Anapolis, Goyaz. To Drs. Fred L. Soper and D. B. Wilson, Director and Assistant Director of the Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, and to Drs. Clark L. Yeager and Gastão Cesar, successively Directors of the Anapolis Laboratory, I tender my sincerest thanks for the facilities afforded me and for the many other kindnesses shown me during my stay in Brazil.
