Resumo

Additional information on hawkmoth visits to flowers of 24 species in the continental United States is presented to enlarge the data base. We now have hawkmoth pollination records for 41 native species and visitation records for at least three naturalized species in the temperate North American flora. The total number of native sphingophilous species in this flora is 106. The most important sphingophilous plant group of supraspecific taxonomic rank in temperate North America is the tribe Onagreae (family Onagraceae). The evolution of the hawkmoth pollination system in this group is discussed.
