ResumoThis article provides an overview of sport policies in Brazil. The investigation methodology involved a critical analysis of important national policy documents dedicated to the subject. The article begins with an analysis of the creation of the field, since the passage of the first laws in the 1940s, up to the current stage of Brazilian sport. As a conclusion, the paper finds that the sports policy in Brazil moved away from an the organization model centred only on the state. However, it was noted that, despite the greater autonomy of sports entities, it is public funding that maintains the sports structure in the country.
