ResumoThe release of Ca2+ and PO43− ions during the adsorption of benzene hexacarboxylic acid (HexA) and benzene 1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (TriA) and their corresponding sodium salts (HexNa and TriNa) onto synthetic apatite (HA) and enamel powder (EP) was studied. Important differences were observed between the involved interactions of TriA and HexA and the apatite surface. In case of HexA adsorption onto EP, four exchange reactions could be shown between carboxyl functions and surface phosphate groups for each molecule whereas for HA and the same adsorbate only one strong interaction per molecule was present. No exchange reactions could be detected for TriA adsorption. A small number of strong interactions between HA and TriNa or HexNa could also be demonstrated.
