ResumoAbstract Atomic mercury is detected following the photolysis of HgBr 2 at 193 nm. The photodissociation yield of Hg is estimated to be 0.01 ± 0.01. Formation of Hg in the disproportionation of HgBr is slow, proceeding with a rate constant −16 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 . Removal of Hg is dominated by inefficient heterogeneous processes.
