Resumo2013. Data were collected consecutively and prospectively. Continuous variables were analyzed with paired t-test where applicable. Results: There were 109 patients referred to The Resistant Hypertension Clinic between January 2012 and September 2013. Data from 26 of these patients was excluded, as they did not complete their participation in the clinic for the following reasons: (i) no show for initial consultation (n1⁄45), (ii) referred for renal denervation trial (n1⁄42), (iii) noncompliant with follow up (n1⁄49) or (iv) referred to nephrology (n1⁄410). Therefore, demographic and clinical data from 83 actively enrolled participants are summarized in Table 1. Further analysis was performed on the 43 patients that completed the course of therapy and graduated from the program. The average duration of enrollment was 3.5 months with an average of 3 visits per patient. The baseline and final data are shown in Table 2. There was a trend towards weight loss (100.3 kg to 96.1), and statistically significant reductions in systolic BP (153.6 to 131.3 mmHg) and diastolic BP (83.3 to 75.3 mmHg). Conclusions: Individuals referred to our newly established resistant hypertension clinic achieved significant blood pressure reductions compared with baseline values. In addition, there were strong trends towards lower body weight and body mass index.
