Resumo

Palavras-chave: The article highlights the movie Cidade de Deus (2002) as one of the most expressive recent productions of the national cinema, both regarding the public it has mobilized and because of the attention it has drawn from the intellectuals. The movie has brought up old controversies on the aesthetics (cosmetics) of hunger. The author takes-on a position, emphasizing the greatness of the Buscapé character who, with his determination, frees the public from the simplified good guy/bad guy formula, remitting it to the most disconcerting uneasiness.
