ResumoThe study consists of a literature review covering aspects of phenology, reproductive system, morphology, floral biology, chemistry and pharmacology of species Byrsonima Rich.ex Kunth in the Northeast of Brazil, since knowledge of these aspects are valuable for biodiversity conservation. Were raised 35 species for the genus Byrsonima distributed in the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Pernambuco, Piauí, Sergipe and Rio Grande do Norte. On average 57% of these species are endemic and native of Brazil, found mainly in the fields of phytogeographic cerrado savanna and forest. All species listed Byrsonima for the Northeast show a pattern of flowering variable, matching the dispersion syndrome and melittophily zoochorous.Work on chemical and pharmacological aspects highlighted the presence of flavonoids and terpenes for species Byrsonima.Ethnobotanical studies reveal that the root, stem bark, leaves, flower, fruits and seeds are the most commonly used parts.
