The concept of the rhizome, as articulated by Deleuze & Guattari in Mille Plateaux, offers us a way of thinking and theorizing hypertext1 within the new technologies. I would like to explore the creative implications of this concept and to suggest that with the coming of hypertext, the classical model of text as arbre de connaissance is more appropriately replaced by the rhizome, in order to grow a concept of differentiation.
