ResumoUpwelling between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas may play an important role in the ecology of the western Agulhas Bank. On the basis of satellite imagery for a period of six years, three basic upwelling modes are identified as being characteristic of the sea surface in the area. It is also shown that coastal headlands play a pivotal role in the nature of this surface expression of upwelling.
