ResumoThe vanadyl(IV) and copper(II) chelates of 4-benzoyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one, Cu(BMPPO)2 and VO(BMPPO)2, have been prepared and characterized. The ESR and electronic spectra indicate comparable metal-ligand covalency in BMPPO and acetylacetonate chelates. However, the IR data for VO(BMPPO)2 suggest an associated structure for the compound. The pyrazolone ring in the β-diketonate ligand, although precluding reactions at the 3-position, introduce only minor changes in the physical properties of the chelates compared to the related acetylacetonate systems.
