ResumoA sex hormone binding protein (SBP) occurs in Pleurodeles serum. The high association constants reflect a great serum protein affinity for both estradiol and testosterone. The binding capacity values are 10–50 times higher than those found in human serum. The specificity of the amphibian SBP is comparable to human SBP. However, our results suggest differences between testosterone and estradiol binding activity. The Pleurodeles SBP has been partially purified by CM-cellulose and DEAE-cellulose chromatographies.
