Resumo

Relative values for the torsional elastic constants of a model liquid crystal have been calculated using the quasi-continuum method of Nehring and Saupe. An anisotropic Lennard-Jones intermolecular potential has been assumed. The contributions of attractive and repulsive forces are evaluated separately, and their dependence on molecular anisotropy is demonstrated.
