ResumoThe differences in spectra of estrogens in acidic and basic solutions are due to the presence of phenoxy ion. It is thus possible to relate hydrogen ion concentration in buffered solutions to degree of ionization. The pK of the estradiol-17β is thus found to be 10.078, that of estradiol-17α is 10.098, of estrone is 10.914, of 6-dehydroestradiol is 9.744, and of 6-ketoestradiol is 9.079.
