ResumoThe cis-cis and the cis-trans geometrical isomers of the cyclic trimer of acetaldehyde have been identified by means of their hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Ordinary paraldehyde has been found to be the cis-cis isomer with equatorial methyl groups. This is called the β-isomer. In addition, the α-isomer and six other substituted trioxanes have been investigated. The NMR spectra of these six were analyzed satisfactorily assuming a “chair” conformation for the ring and a cis-cis arrangement of substituents.
